Have you heard about the paper 'Frugal Bottle', which is gaining attention as a sustainable alternative to glass bottles? The number of drinks manufacturers using these bottles, made by Frugal Packs based in the south-east of England, has been increasing year on year, and in September, the company even presented the bottles to the British Royal Family!　We asked CEO Malcolm Waugh about its journey, which has made great strides in the five years since it was first developed and three years since it was first sold.

The Frugal Bottle is a liquid foodstuff package combining food-grade pouches and cardboard containing 94% recycled paper.

It weighs 1/5th of a glass bottle.

Not only does this reduce the carbon footprint (greenhouse gas emissions) during transportation, but it also greatly reduces the risk of breakage.

The plastic content is 77% less than that of plastic bottles.

'The development of the 'Frugal Bottle' began in 2017 and marketing research using a prototype began in 2018. We compared bottles made of different materials from 'cradle to grave', i.e. all the way from the moment they leave the factory until they are no longer used."
