It's been quite some time since I first heard the word "shochu" in Parisian bars. Can shochu become a staple spirit in cocktail bars? We interview MOF bartender Christophe Davoine!

An unprecedented shochu boom in France!?

On September 24, 2025, the 9th Kura Master President's Award ceremony was held at the residence of the Japanese Embassy in France.

Kura Master is a sake competition judged by French sommeliers (first held in 2017), and since 2021, it has included a category for authentic shochu and awamori.

The head judge was none other than Christophe Davoine, a MOF bartender.

We caught up with him at the ceremony venue and couldn't resist asking about the state of shochu and awamori in France.
