Little Poland → Little Tokyo.
Eavesdrop, a bar inspired by Japanese jazz cafés, is located in the Greenpoint neighbourhood on the northern edge of Brooklyn.
The neighbourhood is historically known as 'Little Poland', home to many Polish immigrants.
However, in the last decade or so, new cafés, eateries, record shops and other modern shops have been increasing, while the streetscape, an 'old-fashioned shopping street' with Polish butcher shops and shops selling pierogi, the Polish national dish, is a mixture of old and new.
In recent years, in particular, Japan-related businesses such as dashi shops, Japanese cafés and tea shops have sprung up one after another, and the city is becoming a 'Little Tokyo', the New York Times reported earlier this year.
