Speaking of Latin Spirits in the Tohoku area! Mr Ouchi of the

Miyagi
retro BackPage brings the bar scene in Tohoku to life with Latin cocktails.

retro BackPage is a dining bar that has been in business for 42 years and is located close to Kotodai Park, an oasis in the city centre of Sendai.

The restaurant offers a panoramic view of the Sendai cityscape, classic cocktails and food, and live music on a grand piano.

Sohei Ouchi, manager of retro BackPage, worked at D.bespoke in Singapore and Bar Rob Roy in Tokyo before returning to his hometown Sendai to join his father's business.

He has inherited his father's commitment to classic cocktails, while also proposing craft cocktails that incorporate mixology techniques.

In addition, he has been playing a role in boosting the bar scene in the Tohoku area, for example by holding the first “Latin Caribbean Cocktail Party” in Sendai last year.

Ouchi says that he was originally a whisky lover, but ‘before I knew it, I had fallen in love with white spirits, which are easy to make into cocktails’. Rum, cachaça, tequila, mezcal and Latin spirits have no blind spots! On top of that, he is also a Singani ambassador.

'Spirits from Latin American countries & Caribbean islands taste like sunshine. They taste good no matter how you drink them and are easy to pair with food.

If whisky is about enjoying the subtle differences between regions and distilleries, Latin spirits have their own distinct character, so you can enjoy them with an open mind and without thinking about the details. That's what I like about them."
